Our Story

After a long and rewarding career in the banking industry, I felt it was time to write a new chapter and step into something completely different. I wanted to turn a long-standing passion into something more meaningful, something I could truly call my own. Cooking had always been a huge part of my life — not just preparing meals, but creating experiences, bringing people together, and sharing something special. My husband and I have spent many years experimenting with BBQ, trying new techniques, flavours, and styles, and it slowly became more than just a hobby — it became a real passion.


One day, I came across a video of a street food vendor sharing his journey, and something about it really resonated with me. The freedom, the creativity, the buzz of serving people directly, and the strong sense of community connection really stood out. It sparked something inside me and got me thinking — why not us? Then, not long after, we stumbled across a food van for sale. What made it even more special was that it was already equipped with a built-in South African Braai. That moment felt like everything just clicked into place. Our love for BBQ, the inspiration from street food culture, and the unique style of cooking over open fire all came together — and Hel’s Kitchen was born.


Our food is inspired by our love of cooking and our passion for exploring flavours from around the world. We take influence from a variety of cuisines, blending different ideas and traditions to create something exciting and unique. At the heart of everything we do is the unmistakable flavour that comes from cooking over fire — something that adds depth, character, and authenticity to every dish we serve.
